Cancelling a GLP-1 Program: Renewals, Refunds and Notice Periods

Can a telehealth program charge you before a clinician approves you?

Yes, and most of the programs we read do. JoinSkinny’s refund policy says “The initial payment must be made the day you enroll in the Program”. TMates’ terms authorize it to “immediately invoice your account”. MEDVi starts your subscription “once you have completed the intake form and paid for the first month”.

What differs is what happens if you are not prescribed. TMates gives a 100% refund if the medical team reviews your history and you do not qualify, and MEDVi, TrimRx, Lttl and OMZO each refund in full if a provider finds you medically ineligible. JoinSkinny’s policy goes the other way: if medication is not prescribed after your initial consultation, “once paid, your Program Fee is non-refundable”, except as expressly stated at checkout.

Before paying, find the sentence that covers “not prescribed” in the refund policy. If it is not there, ask for it in writing.

How often do GLP-1 programs bill you?

Every 28 days or every calendar month, and the terms do not always say which. JoinSkinny ships every 28 days. Lilly defines a month of Zepbound as 28 days. MEDVi’s policy refers to “the then-current billing cycle” without giving its length, and the TrimRx and OMZO terms price an initial consultation and a follow-up consultation without stating an interval.

A 28-day cycle means 13 charges a year. GLP-1 hidden fees shows what that does to an annual total. Note your first charge date and count forward; that date, not the calendar month, drives every cancellation deadline below.

Do GLP-1 subscriptions renew automatically?

Yes. Every program we read bills until you cancel, and some put that wording where you may not look. CareBareRX’s medical consent, not its terms, says “All programs are auto-renewing”. G-Plans’ billing policy says fees “will be automatically deducted from your selected account indefinitely”. Its terms add that a free trial converts automatically to a paid subscription unless you cancel.

The FTC calls this a negative option: “The business takes your silence as permission to charge you.” Its advice is to check that the renewal cost is what you expected, because “an automatic renewal might charge more than you paid the last time” if you started on a promotional rate.

California law goes further for its residents. Business and Professions Code section 17602 requires a business that lets you sign up online to let you cancel “exclusively online, at will”, through a prominent link or button or a pre-formatted termination email. It also requires clear disclosure of the price after any promotional period.

How much notice do you need to give to cancel?

From one day to seven, depending on the program. Miss the window and you pay for another cycle.

Two patterns stand out. Neither G-Plans’ nor Sunlight’s policy describes an online cancel button; both direct you to a person. And Lttl’s cut-off is not published at all: its terms say deadlines “will be disclosed at checkout or in your account”.

JRNYS is the only one of these that prorates: with more than seven days’ notice it refunds “based on the remaining days in the current billing cycle”.

Is pausing or delaying a shipment the same as cancelling?

No. A pause or delay stops a shipment; only a cancellation stops the subscription. Direct Meds’ terms make the distinction concrete: you stop future charges by turning off auto-refill in your account at least 48 hours before the next processing date, and a single order can only be cancelled within 24 hours of placing it, if the provider network has not received it.

Where a program charges a membership separately from medication, stopping the medication does not stop the membership. Eden’s membership renews monthly although medication is reordered by you, on the terms we read on Sep 5, 2026. If you want to stop paying, use the word “cancel”, and keep the confirmation.

What happens to a prepaid 3, 6 or 12-month plan if you stop early?

You usually lose the unused months unless you act within a short window. The terms differ sharply:

• TrimRx: cancelling “does not automatically result in a refund”. You must separately request a refund of unused months within 28 days of the payment date; after that the unused portion is not refundable.
• MEDVi: if you are charged two or more months at a time, you are refunded “for the months for which no medication was shipped to you”.
• JoinSkinny: “no refunds, partial or otherwise, will be issued if you cancel before the end of your current subscription term”, which includes its 3, 6 and 12-month bundles.
• TMates: no refund once you qualify and a prescription is written and sent to a pharmacy. Its 12-month semaglutide plan is $1,900 in one payment.
• G-Plans: “Discounted products or services are non-refundable due to upfront savings offered at the time of purchase.”

A prepaid plan lowers the monthly equivalent and removes your exit. A clinician can stop or change treatment for side effects at any point, so prepaying 12 months is a bet that nothing changes. Start month to month if you are unsure.

When can you get a refund from a GLP-1 program?

In three situations that recur across the terms we read: you cancel before a clinician reviews your intake, a clinician finds you ineligible, or the program made a billing error. After a prescription is written, almost none refund.

• Sunlight: full refund only “before a clinician has reviewed your intake”; after that, cancellations carry an $80 clinical fee, and once a prescription is sent to the pharmacy refunds are not available.
• MEDVi: full refund if you cancel within the first 72 hours and have received no services, or if you are disqualified. On monthly plans there is no refund for the month you cancel in or any earlier month.
• Lttl and OMZO: the order is “considered processed and is non-refundable” once the intake is submitted, unless you are found ineligible or there was a billing error. Requests must be in writing within 28 days of payment.
• CareBareRX: “There are no refunds or exchanges.” Its terms add that consult fees are not refundable once you have had a consultation.
• JRNYS: the initial telehealth fee is not refunded once a doctor has reviewed your profile.

A program’s homepage can promise more than its policy delivers. JoinSkinny advertises a 365-day guarantee while its written policy offers six months with conditions, and G-Plans’ terms, program page and refunds policy give three different answers. The policy page is the one that binds.

What happens to medication that has not shipped when you cancel?

It depends on whether the prescription has reached the pharmacy. TrimRx’s terms draw the line there: a cancellation received before the prescription is transmitted cancels the order, and once it has been transmitted “that order will continue through fulfillment” and the cancellation applies to future orders only. Lttl says orders already processed by the pharmacy cannot be cancelled or refunded.

CareBareRX’s consent sets the point even earlier: medication “is considered dispensed and the order completed when it is signed out for shipping, not when it arrives via delivery”. OMZO’s shipping policy gives you one protection the other way: if your medication has not shipped within 14 business days of ordering, you may request a full refund.

How do you cancel a GLP-1 subscription so it sticks?

Cancel in writing, before the deadline, and keep proof. The FTC’s guidance is to follow the company’s own cancellation instructions, “keep a copy of your cancellation request, along with notes about any conversations”, then watch your statements, and to file a dispute with your card issuer if the company “won’t stop charging your account after you told them to cancel”.

• Find your next billing date and subtract the notice period in the table above.
• Use the channel the terms name. If it is phone or chat, follow up by email with the date and time.
• Ask for a cancellation confirmation and the date of the last charge.
• If a separate membership exists, cancel that too.
• Check the next two statements.
